"Tremendous Power for your Effort" 2009-06-28
By Diana de Avila (Malta, NY USA)
I have MS and sometimes my strength is really affected by heat and exertion. I love these loppers (and bought a pair for my neighbors who helped me out with a project and were very impressed with them). I had read somewhere that they are approved by the American Arthritis Association. That makes a lot of sense.

I would recommend these to anyone ... but I would especially recommend them to people like me who struggle with strength in their hands at times.

They rock!

 "Great Loppers" 2009-06-28
By C. Slasor (Central Florida)
My old loppers were about 15 years old and had been sharpened repeatedly, but when the handle finally started falling apart it was time for a new one. These Fiskar's loppers are wonderful! The PowerGear makes it easy to cut branches up to 1.5" or 2" (depending on the type of wood). I didn't find that I had to open the handles any wider than on other loppers, so that isn't an issue to me.

I have a lot of landscaping and these loppers make it much easier for an early-50's woman like myself to keep my yard neat and trim.

 "Outstanding tool" 2008-12-01
By Clare Jay (Boston, MA USA)
I have a shrub-pruning business, and rely on my Felco PowerGear loppers for cuts too big for my pruning clippers and too small for a saw. These are absolutely the best loppers I know of; they cut through live or dead wood as if they were cutting through butter. Their one drawback is that I can't take them apart to clean and sharpen them, and have to do so in one somewhat unwieldy piece, taking extra care with my sharpening stone. Because they hold an edge very well, though, and are such a great cutting tool, I'm willing to put up with the inconvenience.

I live on 3 acres mostly woods. These loppers are a real time and arm saver. They cut throught most any limb with very little effort. My 8 year old son even uses them, under dad's watchful eyes. In short the work great . I am very happy with them.

I have fancier, more expensive pruners, but when I have a light pruning chore, I reach for this tool. It's especially useful when I need to make many quick cuts.

It's lightweight and easy to carry in a back pocket. I like the way it fits in my hand. A gentle squeeze and snip, it cuts. Relax, it opens up.

I would not recommend this tool for dry, woody pruning.

I'm sold on Fiskars cutting tools and this one is no exception. It snips nicely and cleanly, great for what I use it for which is trimming side branches off bamboo. Now if you want something to cut a big branch, go elsewhere, this is a little pruner and that is what it does.

 "No drainage" 2009-08-02
By Suzanne D'agostino (New Jersey)
This container has no drainage holes for water so buyer beware. I had a similar one from Home Depot that was great. Little perforations in the bottom allow water to seep out. With all the rain we have had in the Northeast this summer this container was impossibly heavy when I tried to move it yesterday. I had to turn it on its side to drain the water. Not good!

By Mr. Snappy (North Alabama)
I got a 10 gallon Kangaroo container about 4 years ago and I use it in every season-spring thru winter. I liked it so much I purchased the 30 gallon container. I use these containers for almost all my yard and garden tasks. I've used them for a whole lot more--like linning them with a plastic bag and keeping drinks iced down for our family reunion, carring my hand tools, fertilizer, etc. back and forth. The small one is perfect for when you deadhead flowers, carry small amounts of compost and/or mulch. The large one works great for leaves and pruning jobs. They collapse for easy storage. Get one or both of these and you'll be amazed at how much you use it.

 "Friskars 30g Collapsible Container" 2009-04-27
By fla5183 (Orlando, FL)
I bought this product because I needed something to hold my trash bags as I filled them. It got a lot of good reviews, but is next to useless for its intended purpose. For one thing the 30 gallon size is actually 43 gallons. I did the math. A "standard" 30 gallon trash bag does not fit! The container is 9 inches bigger around than the trash bag. I looked in the stores and the average 30 gallon trash bag is 60 inches in circumference. The Friskars is 69 inches. Somewhere it was said the Friskars had holes in the bottom to let water drain. It doesn't. Using an oversized bag might work.

 "little heavier" 2009-07-01
By L Chris (Kentucky)
had one of these with a cloth bottom for the garden and loved it, but the bottom eventually tore. This will be better because of the plastic bottom, but it does make it a little heavier to haul around and to dump out. Very well made, looks like it will hold up well.

 "Great so far." 2009-06-06

I've had this container for a few weeks now, using it primarily for lawn clippings. So far, I've been very happy with it. It's light, holds quite a bit (I can dump my lawnmower bag 2-3 times), and has good handles for carrying and dumping.

My concern is with the durability. It hasn't ripped yet, but the material is thin enough that it looks like a stick could go right through it. I've given it 5 stars so far, since it hasn't ripped. I'll update the review if I ever have any problems.

The Fiskars Kanagroo is great. This is our second one. The first one was a gift. It had a soft bottom that we finally wore out. We are so excited to see it is made now with a hard shell on the bottom. It takes hardly any space to store and it is light weight enough for just about anyone who gardens. Great idea for a good product.

"Great Saw for Cutting Limbs" 2009-05-25
By Lee (Northeast)
If you need a replacement saw blade for your tree pruner, this is the best one ever. It has sharp, greedy teeth which is good because the sharper the blade the faster the cutting and the sooner you get to go have a beer and relax. When you get the new blade be sure not to get excited and cut too many branches from your trees while you are trying it out. Otherwise, your trees will look like my neighbor's trees which look like Q-tips. Not that there's anything wrong with Q-tips. They are great for getting nasty yellow wax out of the ear. But trees should look like trees, not Q-tips.

these are good blade made in the USA, it springs ok for it's size, could have been better if it alows to spring a little more, because it's almost always used in cutting trees at odd angles, for that particular purpose, it's somehow stiff and have to be careful when pushing it.

 "Exceeds expectations" 2009-02-09
By Charles Langolf (Ann Arbor, MI)
I expressed a lot of caution when making this purchase. I camp and hike a fair amount and I punish my hatchet more than any tool I carry. I found that this particular hatchet has a smooth coating simular to teflon on the blade which helps it cut through wood like warm butter. Well not quite that well but it is a noticable improvement. The handle is supposedly indestructable but I've yet to run it over with my truck like the commercial advertises but it does feel tough. Overall the weight is light and the length just right. As long as it keeps cutting like it is now I will be happy. So far the blade has held it's edge longer than any hatchet I've had to date.

 "fabulous hatchet" 2008-12-14
By King Ghidora (Planet X)
Hatchets just don't come better than this. It will take a very sharp edge and hold it all day long. It's not a splitting axe. It isn't an axe at all. What it is though is a tough as nails hatchet that will get any job done that a hatchet is meant to do. If you want a splitting axe get a Fiskars brand splitting axe. If you want a chopping axe Fiskars makes one of those that is also 5 stars. If you want to clear brush on your favorite ATV trail or you want to chop kindling for your campfire this hatchet can't be beat. Just don't expect it to be something it isn't.

 "Nice hatchet" 2008-11-16
By J. Morse (western MA)
This hatchet is sharp. No question. It's balanced well and nicely engineered and crafted. I am using it to split kindling which it does superbly. It is a good weight for light duty splitting. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the plastic handle is slippery, especially with any glove material that tends to get slippery with cold and ice...nylon, fleece etc. I suspect I can find a way to solve that on my own but I am a little surprised, given the quality of design and engineering, that wasn't taken into account in the first place.

I just got this hatchet in the mail today and have been chopping large kindling with it all day and I'm extremely impressed. I can only say good things about it. First off the handle is unbreakable, it can even stand being run over by a truck! And the blade of the hatchet is very sharp and the steel is quite nice. I'm also planning on buying the 17-Inch Splitting Hatchet because I'm very satisfied with their line of axes/hatchets!

 "Good idea, poorly executed" 2009-07-23
By The Mechanic (AZ, USA)
This is a good idea that has been poorly executed.

There are ample pockets for your most used tools, and the size of these pockets gives you plenty of flexibility.

For my own personal use, the seed packet storage is a lot of wasted space, which really can't be converted to use for anything other than seed packets. I think the cell-phone pocket is another waste of space on this rig as well. I don't want to be bothered while I'm out in the yard. I'm sure some of you might agree!

Where I am truly disappointed with this product is in it's quality. The materials are fine, but the assembly is truly poor. There is a snap closure on this rig, and when it was made, the snap grommet cut right through the back rubberized fabric, causing that closure to be totally useless. It isn't worth the time and effort to patch the fabric, and install a new snap (or other closure device). The hook-and-loop fastening strap that holds the body of the rig to the bucket is a generic low-quality velcro. The stitching overall is pretty low quality, and less than accurate at the seams and attachment points. Don't overload your rig, or it will sag. Don't remove the rig from the bucket frequently, or it will fail to "stick". Use a dedicated 5-gallon bucket, and leave it attached.

I would suggest getting something like a "Bucket Boss" rig, and adapting it to your gardening needs.

 "Right idea? Wrong execution?" 2009-07-02
By C. Coleman (Atlanta)
The Fiskars 9424 Garden Bucket Caddy surely has appeal to somebody, but I can't imagine the Caddy really having any kind of mass appeal. It's a good idea - for someone who has the need to tote a bucket and yard tools - but that leads to this question: Who needs to tote a large bucket and garden tools?

Answer: gardenders who do a lot of weeding?

That's the answer I got from a number of people who said that the bucket had "all kinds of uses in the garden" and then had difficulty explaining those needs coupled with the need to tote the tools with the bucket.

I'm not intending to be short sighted here. Believe me, I see lots of uses for a bucket and tools - weeding, harvesting, seed toting, bulb toting, or just extra space to store larger gardening items - like bags of lime or fertilizer.

But you should ask yourself first, before you buy - do I tote things in a bucket and need my gardening tools when I do?

The design seems fine, but has some flaws. For starters, some of the pockets have no bottoms... and if you don't have the right size tool in there, these pockets are then useless. When you do have something in there that's large enough to provide resistance, it's a bit unweildy.

Loaded down, the Caddy is heavy, maybe even too heavy to fit nicely on the bucket. The more you have in the caddy, the snugger the fit. Completely loaded with a series of tools, we found the caddy almost impossible to fasten aroung the bucket we had. And be careful selecting a bucket. Buckets with heavy trim or banding near the top may be the right volume but will not work with this caddy - it just won't reach around.

Fiskars would be wise to recommend a bucket or two to send customers in the right direction. You may find a quick trip to your local bix bog hardware store doesn't yield a good bucket.

The other major issue is this: You can't empty the bucket with the caddy on unless you want to play fruit basket turnover with your tools. There's no locking mechanism or tie back to keep the tools in place when the bucket is inverted - so you can fill the bucket, but you'll have to remove the caddy first before you then empty the bucket.

Also, depending upon the handle on your bucket - you may find it difficult to get the handle out of the way when the caddy is in place.

Bottom line: I'm just not sold on this device that looks like it should be handy and useful in the photographs. Practicality, design issues, and limited use make for a below average product.

UPDATE: We saw an AVID SCRAPBOOKER with this device, wrapped around a bucket. She has all sorts of scrapbooking tools in the caddy, and the bucket became a portable trash can. Not the intended use, but very resourceful. Go figure!

 "Garden Bucket Caddy" 2009-07-02
By S. Doherty (Clinton Twp, MI)
I loved the concept of having my tools attached to my bucket, but the caddy has failed in execution. Once you fill all the pockets of the caddy with your gardening tools, it gets too heavy to stay attached to the bucket and falls off without warning. I have tried different ways to keep it on, but haven't found anything that works yet with the velcro closure. The other problem is you can't really dump your bucket with the caddy on unless you want to throw away your tools with the weeds. And the caddy is hard to get back on the bucket with the tools in it because of the weight and gravity pulling it down as you are trying to re-secure it to the top of the bucket.
