"If you believe it's time to put principles above parties, character above campaign promises, and Common Sense above all -- then I ask you to read this book...."

In any era, great Americans inspire us to reach our full potential. They know with conviction what they believe within themselves. They understand that all actions have consequences. And they find commonsense solutions to the nation's problems.

One such American, Thomas Paine, was an ordinary man who changed the course of history by penning Common Sense, the concise 1776 masterpiece in which, through extraordinarily straightforward and indisputable arguments, he encouraged his fellow citizens to take control of America's future -- and, ultimately, her freedom.

Nearly two and a half centuries later, those very freedoms once again hang in the balance. And now, Glenn Beck revisits Paine's powerful treatise with one purpose: to galvanize Americans to see past government's easy solutions, two-part monopoly, and illogical methods and take back our great country.

 "Not worth anyone's time" 2009-08-13
By Anne Livingston (Washington, USA)
A friend gave me this and I did try to read it. At least I now better understand where all the conspiracy ideas seem to be sprouting from lately.

Unless you really want to believe in those theories I can't imagine this book resonating with anyone. It is based on made up "facts" and designed to play on the paranoid. I don't know why so many Americans want to believe that only they are smart enough to see the truth in made up nonsense but there is certainly a market for it. I didn't make it to the end of the book and returned it to its owner wondering why he would want to waste his time with something so off the mark. I have never seen Mr. Beck's show but now I know I don't want to.

"Common Sense" should be required reading for all freedom loving Americans. Glenn Beck points out the basic principles of our form of government and makes it clear that so many of us today are too willing to let it go.

A short read and very entertaining for such a serious issue. Buy the book and share it with others.

"Starts out strongly, but quickly peters out...." 2009-08-13
By Reader in Palo Alto (Palo Alto, CA, USA)
This book was very disappointing for me.

Content: Beck constantly talks about his "plan" to correct what has been happening in Washington, but ultimately, he offers no plan at all. A few positive notes, though: he does not whine in this book nearly as much as he does on his radio show, nor does he once again dredge up the minute details of his struggle (twenty or so years ago) against alcoholism.

Style: Beck is not nearly as good a writer as Mark Levin, or the superb Jonah Goldberg (I would recommend reading the latter's "Liberal Fascism", and also a free copy of Paine's original "Common Sense", rather than buying this book).

 "Snip, snip, snip" 2009-06-20
By T. G. Reese (Boston MA)
I recommend these shears. They are easy to operate, sharp and accurate. Be aware that the blades are plain steel, and they will rust if you leave wet trimmings on them. In wet conditions, I suggest oiling the blades after use; a few drops from a pump oiler and a wipe down with a paper towel is sufficient.

 "Great manual grass shear" 2009-02-12
By Reversemidasman
This is a great pair of grass shears. Its not too long so it does overexert your hand or wrist when using them. I found them extremely sturdy and have many times stabbed them into the ground when weeding as well as banging them to shake off grass clippings. The blades are sharp and seems to be self sharpening. I found them very comfortable for it's simple design. I also have the other fiskar version that has a swivel head and longer blade which cost me more, but was not at all comfortable or as versatile as this one here. I found my hand tired faster on the longer, swivel head version. So if you are looking for a basic comfortable and easy to use grass shears, this is one great pair of grass shears.

This was a replacement for a previous pop-up bin that I wore out after years of hard use. I find this to be the perfect size for weeding and light pruning. Anything bigger would be too heavy by the time it was full. A larger version might be great for leaf collecting. It doesn't take up much room, so I don't feel a need to collapse it, but it's nice to know I can.

 "What a great idea" 2008-07-08
By Robert Bartel (Columbia, MO USA)
I have only used this a few times now, but based on the strength of the reviews here I took the plunge. I LOVE having this when I'm working in the yard. Its lightweight and portability, plus the collapsable storage, make it a great friend in the yard.

The only reservation I have is that it developed several small holes in the bottom after being dragged across a concrete patio with an embedded gravel surface. Since I've only had this for a couple of weeks, and only used it two or three times so far, I can't comment on it's life expectancy. However, I would recommend being careful about abrading the bottom. I wish they had used a heavier canvas bottom.

 "good tool crap sheath" 2009-08-12

I would rate this tool higher, but the "sheath" is garbage. Get the gerber one instead (it's actually made by fiskars) and you get a quality sheath with it as well.

"The sheath is not a sheath, it is retail packaging" 2009-07-25
By S. Schwarm (Sand Springs, OK USA)
Excellent quality, period. Having read all the reviews before purchasing, I can simply say - I agree. It is Fiskars quality, it is balanced and the curved nose holds onto the branches and vines which would normally slip away from the blade. This will last the rest of my life.

My one complaint - what is described as a sheath is not what I or likely you would think of as a sheath. It is hard plastic with a plastic snap to hold the tool in it. It is great for hanging on retail racks. It is a severe disappointment if you are expecting something to attach to your belt to safely carry when not in use when you are in the field. It is not possible to use it in this manner.

Bottom line - if you don't need the sheath for carrying and safety, then buy this tool. If you do need a sheath for carrying and you value safety, then buy the Gerber version of this tool. They are the same tool and same company.

Have fun - chop, chop.

 "its cutting time" 2009-07-23
By D. Bolt (vancouver)
ok i have to say i love the product. it feels very nice in the hand, the heavy blade makes for effortless cutting once you get the swing down. i however did not have any manufacturing local sticker, the plastic sheath is made in china. we took this out and tried it out on stink weed trees, ah no match, then just for fun a swipe at tall grass that tends to bend and wrap, but not with this. sliced through like butter. so then we found some dried out timber and set the blade into the and of the log, with one good smack it would split the firewood without any trouble black berry vines and brier thickets were no match either. my only wish is they had a light weight sheath, leather or nylon so that it could be carried on a pack for long camping trips.

now as for ups, i am disappointed yet again with the company. i ordered on the 16 it shipped out with ups on the 17 early am. i used the 3 day saver plan, witch should have it here on the 21. checking the ups site it showed it moved 17/18/19/20, arriving at the main hub on the 20. on the 21 i tried to intercept the package, tracking and ups's

[1-800-why-bother} both claimed it to be there. the hub how ever informed me that this was a logical scan that they give us on tracking meaning a fake scan that was to show when they assumed it would arrive.so why even bother having the tracking feature if it is only BS.i worked for ups at the air opps and at the main hub in roava and there was no such thing as logical scan. i have filled more plains a loaded and unloaded more trucks then i care to know, hating the scan the entire way cause it slowed you down, but it was necessary. on the 22 it came after my bro's bday, being 4 weekdays and 6 ttl, not 3 like i paid for. Ups also charged 11 lbs when it was 3to4lbs. ill ship usps for now on. or fed ex if they get the rates to a competitive level, im just tired of ups and there bs, on times and insurance non coverage of damaged/destroyed products.

"Sufficient Chinese tool with a price I can live with" 2009-07-16
By Robert J. Jeffers (Sparta, IL USA)
This product is like most other Fiskars products, it's not the best, but often sufficient. It is a cheap knockoff of an American made Woodmans Pal, also sold by Amazon, a tool that has been "Made in America" since before WWII. Woodman has a better design of the hook, better steel, and it can also be used as a hammer, hell it might even be able to be used in a Bruce Willis action film to save the world, however, along with those great american features you get a whoping high price. I mean, I could buy three of Fiskars Brush Axe for it's price and get sufficient quality and a snazzier look. So for me (a customer) the choice comes down to this: The Best Quality & American Pride vs. Childs tuition, Food, Pay the Bills & clear the jungle. Americans better start wising up, get off arrogance & entitlement and start being competitive in the world. Fiskar is a Finnish Company, it's a global market, and they don't have to make anything in America or Finland and Woodmans Pal of America needs to stop being so stuck on being the best and start focusing on their market, customer needs and the competition (yes, they do exist) and make the most sufficient/practical item, after all thats how Germany lost the war and it's how America is going to lose it's industrial edge. American companies seem to have a severe case of narcissisum and feeding their own ego, it's almost as if they do no market targeting and just make tools for their wealthy friends. News flash for Woodmans Pal, most people who would use a tool like this are rural in origin and not wealthy enough to justify $95 dollars for a weed whacker.

lighter than any garden rake i'd ever used in the past, it strikes and pulls very well, but are very hard to push along side soil surface because of the purposely built off set claws, terrific shock absorbing shaft, could've use wider handle on the tail section though.
