 "long, hard shafts!" 2009-06-28
By Bartok Kinski (Prague)
This is my 24th Leaf Rake, so I am obviously sold on the usefulness of the little, gentle, long, 24-Inch, hard shafts!

If you are a distracting person--not necessarily a DILIGENT person, but a person who has an intrusively active life, and has to remember lots of information, keep lots of appointments, dig often, etc., I believe you will fall in love with these devices if you try them.

I use mine for the traditional purposes of raking and dirting my garden, but also to put reminders the long shaft to myself in the future, such as "rebalanace mutual funds in IRA" twice a year. I also use this as a memory bank for odd little bits of information I may find useful, by recording the information in a note, along with several key words I will think of when I want to remember the specifics months later, and taping the note to the Softouch Rake handle. I search for the keywords, and there is the note, displayed to the Softouch Rake handle so I can see it. But most of the time I can't make heads or tails of what the note meant so I just rake the dirt.

"You gotta get this rake!!" 2009-06-22
By M. Thurston (Laconia, NH USA)
My wife is a metal leaf rake killer! I usually have to buy a new one each year. I have tried other plastic rakes and they predictable break in a short time. I purchased my first Fiskars rake at home improvement store on a whim. I could not get over how comfortable and light this rake is, further, it is designed to not "clog up" and contours to the ground beautifully getting all leaves and even pine needles with ease. My wife tried this new rake as the old metal leaf rake was so bent out of shape it was virtually useless. She LOVED this new rake! I went to the big box store to get another Fiskars rake and they no longer stocked it. I did a google search and up came AMAZON as a source. I bought two of these for two reasons, 1: I am so impressed with this rake I feared they may become a problem to locate in the future, but I doubt I'll need to replace the ones I have, and 2: By placing an order over $25.00 I got free shipping! We have a very large yard with 77 35'+ Colorado Blue Spruce trees, however all the leaves I get in my yard are blown in from my neighbors yards. Trust me, as someone that now owns 3 of these rakes you will never go back to the old style metal or cheap plastic rakes of the past!

 "What can I say?" 2009-06-22
By Edward Cobb (Phillipsburg, NJ, USA)
This is an excellent product. It looks good, it shouts quality, it feels good in the hands, and it even does a superior job of raking those pesky leaves. Better yet, my wife loves it so I don't have to use it too often!

Recommended with distinction!

This rake does a great job on leaves and debris--and we've got lots! The raking actually does go much quicker!

"Great Rake! A couple minor faults" 2009-01-24
By G. Anderson
This is my favorite rake ever.

The weight (light) makes it super easy to use for long periods of time. You don't realize how tough 'normal' rakes are on your back until you pick up a bunch of leaves with this thing. Also, the plastic tines do a GREAT ob of gripping whatever you are raking. It also excels at flicking piles into my leaf bag. A fantastic tool.

Drawbacks:

- The orange part of the handle WILL fall off. It is held on by (very little) friction

- The plastic rake part WILL break eventually. I've broken 2. It's a testament to the rake that I keep coming back. A simple change in manufacturing (adding some more support ribs) would fix the problem.

Regardless of these 2 (small) issues, buy this rake.

I love this axe. I recommend also buying a blade sharpener if you don't already have one.

 "My Favorite Axe" 2009-03-15
By BargainHunter
I've owned this axe for approximately three years and really like both the design and the construction. It is light weight and cuts well. The handle is very durable and the head flares out beyond the handle to make it less likely to get stuck in the wood. I have not driven on the back side of it with a sledge but use the axe in conjunction with wedges. The orange paint on the end of the handle is very nice for finding it when cleaning up in the evening; however, I added a band of white reflective tape between the orange and black to make it even easier to find at night with a flashlight. The cutting edge does pick up the occasional nick, but no more than my old wooden-handle axe did.

 "Great Axe" 2009-02-17
By Libbo
The Fiskars Pro Splitting Axe is a great axe, from a great manufacturer, in a great country (Finland).

Pros:

-Out of the boxes it's razor sharp

-The handle doesn't splinter like wood

-Doesn't dull or nick easily (The Fiskars hatchet seems to be made of cheaper steel or something, it nicks and dulls on wood this axe easily plows through.)

-Cool head design- The head was obviuosly forged for one purpose: to split wood. That doesn't mean it can't do other tasks, like chopping down small trees, breaking windows, etc.

-Lifetime Warrenty!

- It's a Fiskars. Need I say more?

Cons

-Handle can be slippery when wet

-The sheath is a peice of crap, but you can always get a leather one.

-I've heard that when you hit the butt of the axe hard enough (like a hammer), the head can pop out. Don't know if it's true, but seems logical based on the design.

Overall, great axe, no real glaring flaws, just needs a better sheath.

 "Great but not perfect." 2009-02-09
By Mr. B. (USA)
I used this axe on some pretty hard and knotty wood over the weekend.

It is very light and does split well. However, the edge got nicked up pretty bad and all I hit was wood. I'm glad I ordered the sharpener. I consider it a mandatory accessory for this axe .

I have large hands and like the girth of the handle. I'm about 6'2" and didn't have any issues with the length either. I like the little 'lip' at the bottom of the handle as well because I can let the handle slide down without accidentally dropping it.

The axe got stuck on several occasions. However, that was more due to me not lining the cut up with the natural cut lines (grain?) in the wood. I won't fault it for that because it certainly splits the wood without binding when lined up correctly.

I whacked the handle really hard a couple of times right below the head. Heck of a jolt to my arms but other than cosmetic marks, there was no damage

This is my first axe but I've been fairly impressed with Fiskars brand tools in the past. They've been around for a long time so I'm confident in the warranty, should I ever need it.

While I'd like to see this axe made with higher quality steel, overall its a good value for the money and I recommend it.

 "A real time saver!!!" 2009-02-05
By Charles G. Turner (Coos Bay, Oregon)
I thought this light-weight axe was a toy, compared to my 6 pound maul. I was wrong! I split so much wood the first time I picked it up, I didn't have enough room to store it all. This is a first rate item and worth every cent. If in doubt, buy this axe!
